Job Description

Maryville College in Maryville, TN seeks applicants for the position of General Manager of the Clayton Center and Corporate Sales. The General Manager (GM) provides leadership for an exciting public-private partnership facility located on the campus of Maryville College. With six performance spaces and galleries, the Clayton Center is the primary learning and performing space for the College’s fine and performing arts programs, as well as providing the surrounding region with a first-class entertainment, educational, and economic development facility. The GM works with college faculty and staff, various constituencies, two municipalities and an advisory board to provide day-to-day management and vision for the Clayton Center. In addition to the Clayton Center, Maryville College also has available 2 auditoriums, a chapel, 5 banquet / dining rooms, and abundant meeting rooms, residence halls, and sports / recreation facilities. The GM is responsible for the business development of the Clayton Center as well as overseeing all operational aspects of the Clayton Center and Corporate Sales and Events including managing the staff and supervising all day-to-day activities. The successful candidate will have a strong history of operations excellence in areas such as personnel management, hospitality, entertainment, customer service, friendliness, cleanliness, programming, budget control, and knowledge of OSHA requirements for the facility and employees. The position reports to the President of the College. Candidates should have: • A bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in business, marketing, hospitality management or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred; • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements in entertainment and hospitality safety procedures and protocol is required; valid Driver’s License is required; CPR certification preferred; • Intermediate-level computer skills are required; • Experience in strategic planning is preferred; • General Manager or Operations Manager experience is preferred; • An understanding of the visual arts, performing arts, and entertainment markets; • Commitment to working effectively as a leader with advisory boards and various constituency groups, including two municipal government bodies; • An appreciation of the importance of the arts within a church-related, liberal arts higher education setting.
